Perhentian Islands

I arrived at Long Beach on Small Perhenthian Island at 8am. It is only a small Strip of beach with a few bars (Muslem so only one that sold Alcohol)cafes and Dive shops. I think I was spoilt at Tioman so I wasn't as impressed with this Island as much as I would have been if i didn't visit Tioman first. At Tioman the beer was 43p / $1.10 Aussie and the cigs were the same each pack.

I met up with Frances and David on my first day at Perhentian. They are a great couple who I met up with on Tioman. I also bumped into Scott again. A guy I met in Singapore.

Monitor Lizard. You would pass these creatures casually walking around the place.

My accommodation was a shack on the edge of the Jungle with the bottom being slats of wood with 2 inch gaps inbetween so i could see the floor through them. I might as well have took my sleeping bag and snuggle up under a tree in the jungle each night. There was so many creature it wasn't fuuny. The Gekko that made funny noises all night. Aparrently it was a blessing to have a lot of these huge out of this world gekkos in your rooom because they keep the snakes away. Great! My second night i came in and had 2 huge cockroches running round my bed. I tried to sleep with the light on because every time i turned it off i would hear scurrying noises around me. With the light on hundred of big orange flys would be attracted to it and buzzing round my room. It was torture. I couldn't sleep at all.

I have just finished the book "The Damage Done" by Warren Fellows about him 12 years of Hell in a Bangkok Prison for attempting to smuggle heroin. He tells a story of how one of the inmates had a cockroach climb in his ear and lay eggs in him neck.I think it is really playing on my mind because when I did finally fall asleep I woke up sllep walking Tugging at my shack door thinking I was in a prison cell. Can't stay in this place another night. Moving onwards and upwards to Thailand.

Hell of a Day!

I headed to Tioman Jetty to catch a Ferry at 1.30pm today. Boy did I have a few to many vodkas last... talk about 3 quarters vodka and a splash of lemo. Each time i went the bar he would charge me the exact amount i had in my hand. I clicked onto this (probably a little too late) and held less money in my hand. There not soft over here! :) Or im very soft!
Well i waited at the jetty for the ferry, and i waited and waited. The ferry final turns up at 3.30pm with lots of smiles as usual but not a mutter of sorry for being late. Im sure there isnt even a word for late in there vocabulary. Not that i should be complaining being stuck in paradise for an extra 2 hours but the circumstances weren't the best. I was stuck in long pants at the jetty in the blazing midday sun, torturous hangover and a gipsy boat had pulled in and i was surrounded by about 12 mayalsian gipsys stinking with no teeth staring at me. Spluttering some gobbeldy gook at me from time to time and then they'd laugh. I felt like the prize (very red) show pig at the village market. Well at least they had fun!

Got to mersing and told it was the school holiday and all the buses were full for 3 day. The sweat was dripping off me... my backpack was weighing me down and i was in clothes prepared for the icey air conditioning I had heard so much about on malaysian buses.. I thought I was going to dye here or burst into flames. Finally one tour operator told me to hang on till 8.30pm and maybe someone wouldnt turn up and id have there place.. It felt like a life time but thankfully 8.30pm I was boarding a bus to Kota Bharu.

A little intimidated by being the only white person and one of few woman showing my face never mind my hair.
A little into the journey A car come flying at us from behind.. lights flashing horn going over took us and forced us to stop. Lots of commotion in malaysian. I thought this is it we are being highjacked. Bit paranoid at this stage i guess!! Well thankfully it turned out the stupid gets had missed the bus and there mate chased it to catch up (well thats what i worked out anyways!)

Finally I fell asleep on the night bus. Awoken by a shuve from the driver a mummble of something. Before i had a chance to rub my eyes I was on some dark street at 5am with a malaysian running at me shouting taxi, who it turns out was just a local boy making a few bob and not a taxi atall. It was dark there was a soul in sight or a car on the road. At this stage i did think my god what am i doing! The only others were 4 Malaysians standing on the corner close by waiting for there pray. I final agreed to the way over priced taxi. What a 24 hours.. i swear id nearly had it. But finally reached Perhentian Islands.

Tioman Island -Stranded on Monkey Bay

Went snorkeling at monkey bay today with two friends I have met Martin and Rory. It was amazing Crystal clear water and tropical coloured fish swimming around me. THere brave too.... some were meeting me nose to nose. I think i was more scared than the poor little fishys.
The tide came in and we couldnt walk from Monkey bay 2 to Monkey bay 1 so we were stranded on this little bay. It started to rain heavy so we decided to walk through the jungle. I was in flip flops and a bikini. Id say not the best gear for jungle treking. In the jungle were monkeys (which i have developed a little fear of since the biting in Bali!) poisionous snakes, spiders, Leech among other things that I didn't dare think about.

This is a photo of the better part of the path were it was not over grown.

Rainforest.JPG

It is so over grown we couldn't see which way the path was going. At one stage i did think we were going to be spending the night in the jungle.
An hour and half of sipping and sliding in the rain trying to climb the path, I finally reach civilization I was covered in muck from head to toe soaked through and dehydrated. What fun!

Malaysia - Tioman Island

Left Singapore and travelled across the Boarder to Malaysia and headed up the east coast to the Tioman Island. Had a bit of a bad time on the Journey. The Camera I just bought in Singapore I left on the bus.... gutted!! Didn't even have it 24 hours. REalised straight away and called the tour company who called the Driver. He said it was not there1 What can a girl do!

That aside.... Tioman... What a Gorgeous Place! Ive never seen such a gorgeous place.... No photos but some friends I met there are going to email me photos so will upload them soon.

Hello from Singapore

overcast

Hello People, We'll i have finally managed to set it up with a little help from my Super mate Helen!
Well she was super until this morning when she told me (with my bedhead she is forcing me to add) I looked like the head throwing creatures from the Labyrinth. Thinking this wasnt so much of an insult at the time I laughed along until she went to the extreme efforts to download a picture of one...

Emma.jpg

Im sure you can imagine the smile was quickly wiped off my face and we havent exactly been the same since!! Maybe in the distant future I will be able to forgive and forget.....
